About

Welcome to Before the Overture! Some of you may have read my other blog, One Writer’s Terrors, which is for my novel writing adventures. BtO is in the same vein as that venture, as it will follow my stage writing adventures.

Anyways, onto why this page exists: to tell you a little bit about me. I’m sixteen years old and living in North Georgia (USA, not the country). Obviously I’m a playwright, so no need to tell you about that. I began writing plays about two years ago, when I took a playwright/production class, in which we wrote a one act play that later got produced by the Children’s Theatre part of the theatre company that held the course. A couple of months later, I was doing “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the same theatre (yes, I’m an actor, too)  and the director told me about Script Frenzy, a competition that challenges you to write 100 pages (at the time, the challenge was actually to write 20,000 words) in a month. I participated in that (which was the first time it had ever happened (2007)) and became one of the first winners of Script Frenzy by writing a three act drama which is now collecting dust on my computer. I took a break from playwriting and focused on my acting until April 2008, when I participated in Script Frenzy again and wrote a full length musical, sending me flying into the winner’s circle once more. I returned to Script Frenzy the next two times and wrote two more full length musicals. For my 2012 Script Frenzy project, I will be working on a musical comedy about superheros. Details can be found on the main part of this blog.

I’m really excited that I’ve started this blog, I like the idea that there are people out there who will get to follow my shows as they develop. Keep checking back for more updates!
